exchange student in Belgium

Take a deep dive into my exchange-student-life with me

You’re open-minded and eager to make lifelong lasting experiences? You’re thinking about doing an exchange semester abroad? Then this blog might be the ultimate inspiration for you!

Hey! My name is Katja and I’m an austrian student, who is currently spending a semester abroad. I’m here to share my new everyday life in Belgium, while taking a look at stereotypes about cultures and the exchange-student-life itself. But don’t worry, my blog won’t be all about belgian chocolate and waffles. (Although those are pretty awesome.)

Challenging Expectations & Stereotypes

Expectations and stereotypes are a tricky business! They make us excited, but can just as well drag us down, when they are not met. While travelling you have certainly come across some stereotypes about countries and cultures. Well, me too. In the upcoming months I want to unravel some of those stereotypes and see, which are actually true.

Making friends all over the world, expanding my horizons, improving my language skills and doing lots of weekend trips. That’s what popped into my head, when I was dreaming about my exchange semester. Now, during my stay in Belgium, I’m thrilled to see, if these expectations can be fullfilled.

Lessons beyond the classroom

Cultural topics and events have always caught my interest. And what would be a better way to really dive into another culture than living there for 5 months? I’m convinced, that exploring different cultures and stepping out of your comfort zone helps you grow as a person.

With blog entries and vlogs I will keep you updated on what my university life, as well as my weekend wanderings within and outside Belgium. Because when I’m old and wrinkly, I want to look back at this unique time of my life and say: I did it all!
